Saul’s experience on the Damascus road teaches us that excessive light brings temporary darkness. But when it passed, he saw God more clearly, though the things around him became dimmer.
This is always the way for those saints who sit in darkness. God sends them greater light. A bright cloud overshadowed the disciples, but “when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man save Jesus only.” Once the darkness is passed, and the light of His countenance has shone upon us, incidents and people become obscure and no longer perplex, disturb, or impress us.
“My beloved is mine, and I am his...Until the day break, and the shadows flee away.” (Song of Solomon 2:16-17)
