“Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water... The woman saith unto him...Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”
(Jn. 4:10-14)
Thirsty at the well? Mark it down, you will always be thirsty at the world's well; it only gives temporary satisfaction. Only Jesus’ eternal artesian well can give everlasting gratification. Jacob’s well may help you physically for a brief time, but only at Jesus’ well will you find permanent spiritual fulfillment.
Show me what a man or woman constantly thirsts for and I’ll tell you, with almost certainty, in which direction they’re eternally headed. The man after God’s own heart said, “As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God...my soul thirsteth after thee.” Time doesn’t change this!
My pail I’m often dropping
Deep down into this well,
It never touched the bottom,
However deep it fell;
And though I keep on dipping
By study, faith and prayer,
I have no power to measure
The living water there.”
